[Content] Playing in the sand dunes using cars has become popular on the West Coast of the United States since the 1960s. It would later develop into a category of motorsports, and racing vehicles built for running in the desert were collectively called dune buggies. Meyer's Manx is one of them, but it was created by taking the chassis of the VW Type 1 (first-generation Beetle), reducing the dimensions from front to rear, and mounting a lightweight open body made of fiberglass on top of it. Similar models were released by many manufacturers, but the one that received a lot of attention for its high quality was the Meyers Manx manufactured by California-based B.F. Meyers & Co., led by Bruce Meyers. Although the Meyer's Manx was built as a competition vehicle, many young people enjoyed driving it on public roads. B. F. Meyers & Co. manufactured about 6,000 Meyers Manx cars between 1964 and 1971 before going out of business, but was revived under a new owner in 2000 and now also manufactures EV versions.
